The Crazy House; formally called Hang Nga
Villa; was built in the 90's by a Vietnamese architect Dr
Dang Viet Nga. Dr Nga was born in Vietnam; graduated at the
Architecture University of Moscow in the 60's, then worked
at the Building Design Institute in Dalat shortly after her
return to Hanoi in the 80's. Her passion and desire to pursue
her dreams had turned out to be a huge controversial in the
community since the Hang Nga Villa was formed in a way to
break the traditional practices by free volumes with free
curves and structures. Instead of following the dependent
classic principles in the arrangement of masses of straight
lines and square planes, Dr Nga used spaces open on the four
sides of the room to create the richness of the environing
visibility. The Villa has ten different theme rooms at the
moment charging from US$10 up to $45. There's no fan, no phone,
no TV, no internet in rooms, but you'll survive don't be scared.
It's a sight seeing spot as well as a mini guesthouse that
you don't see it in any other part of the world. Some people
might think that Dr Nga's idea was in fact inspired by Gaudi's
architecture but far from the standard and quality to be recognized.
But I'd say, dreams could be costly, yet people without visions
are perished. At the end; who's in the position being justified
